The album was co-produced with Krautrock producer Connie Planck in his studio in Cologne, and features numerous guest musicians, including Blondie drummer Clem Burke, Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft drummer Robert Gerl and the duo Can Holger Chukay and Jaki Liebezeit (Jaki Liebezeit), informs . The album was recorded in several locations, including Pink Floyd-owned Britannia Row Studios and Astoria. The Division Bell reached the top of the charts in the UK and the United States, but critics reacted coolly to it. The album was released immediately after Pink Floyd's tour of the USA and Europe.
