The album is based on the true story of a Japanese soldier (Hiroo Onoda) stranded on an island during world war II who doesn't know the war is over. "Naked" comes from his last name "Onoda". The album was released in August 1982. Rough Diamonds, like its predecessor, Desolation Angels, was recorded at Ridge Farm studios in Surrey, England, in March and April 1982, and engineered by max Norman (known for his work with Ozzy Osbourne). It was the last album by the original Bad Company line-up and the most recent Studio album to feature Paul Rogers. The album's debut track, "Electricland", written by Rogers, became the album's biggest hit. The track "Painted face" Rogers on the air rock stations spun day and night.
