The album was originally planned to be released in 1990, after 18 concerts Eric in the beginning of the year, but the musician was dissatisfied with the recorded material and the gate 24 Nights was delayed. In 1991, Clapton set a record by playing the Royal albert hall 24 nights in a row. The album, with the inclusion of new records that came out a few months later.

This album is the first released by his new label Starfaith Records, which is distributed by Sony Music Entertainment, the owners of all of Santana's albums (except those recorded for Polydor Records, which are owned by Universal Music Group). This is also the first album since 1992 by Milagro, in which none of the songs have guest vocalists. This style was typical of Santana's Supernatural albums.
