Monolith is the sixth studio album by the American progressive rock band Kansas, released in 1979. Monolith initially sold about 800,000 copies, giving it gold status, but it eventually went platinum in the early 1990s. Kerry Livgren donated his platinum plate to the Kansas Historical Society. The album reached number 10 on the Billboard Albums Chart, becoming their third consecutive (and last) studio album to reach the top ten. The album remained on the Billboard Albums chart for a total of 24 weeks and was one of the top 100 albums of the charts (#100) for the calendar year 1979.

Originally released on January 30, 1984 in Europe by the Liberty/EMI label, it was redesigned for the American market and released on April 16, 1984 in North America by the Geffen label. A "European" mix was released in Japan on March 23, 1984, and an "American" remix from CBS/Sony was released on December 21, 1984. Although he was not a great success, he helped the group enter the American market and achieve a breakthrough in the late 1980s. Historically, this was the last Whitesnake recording to use the band's original "snake" logo. The album reached number 9 in the charts, becoming the fourth in the top 10 in the UK. In the United States, it reached number 40 on the Billboard 200 chart.
