The album cover was painted by Rodney Matthews, a famous English fantasy illustrator who created covers for the works of many other artists (Scorpions, Thin Lizzy and others) The title of the CD is borrowed from the novel "No Mean City" (1935) by Alexander MacArthur and Kingsley Long. With this album, the band's sound has become heavier, given the addition of guitarist Zal Cleminson from the Sensational Alex Harvey Band. The popularity of the album allowed the band to perform with several big names such as Thin Lizzy on their 1978/79 tour. ...more

These people were trying to tell the listener something by joining various traditions, with the understanding that the search was planned and intertwined in their acoustic and electronic themes. This album features not only Plant's regular band, but also many guest musicians such as Maire Brennan, Nigel Kennedy and Richard Thompson. Guitarist Kevin Scott MacMichael also contributed significantly to the album. Fate Of Nations has incorporated a variety of styles and influences, some of which come from Led Zeppelin. The album reached number four, their highest position on the UK Albums Chart (both previous records reached number six).
