It was originally written as the soundtrack to the film "The Last Temptation of Christ", but Gabriel spent several months after the film's release developing the music, finally releasing it as a full-fledged album instead of the soundtrack to the film. It is considered a milestone in the popularization of world music and won the Grammy Award for Best New Age Album in 1990.

THE FLOCK is the first album by a very interesting American band that worked at the junction of jazz, blues and rock. In almost any criticism you will read that FLOCK is very similar to CHICAGO, was influenced by CHICAGO, or something similar. You can safely throw this criticism in the trash... The Flock failed to achieve the commercial success of other jazz-rock bands of the era, such as Chicago and Blood Sweat and Tears, but they became quite famous due to the inclusion of the violin in the group.
