E Pluribus Funk is the fifth studio album by American rock band Grand Funk Railroad. The album was released on November 15, 1971 by Capitol Records. Like the previous Grand Funk Railroad albums, it was recorded at the Cleveland Recording Company and is the last album produced by Terry Knight. The name is a play on the motto of the United States of America, E pluribus unum, and in Latin means "Of many, Funk". The original exhaust cap (designed by Ernie Cefalu) was completely round and covered with a silver film resembling a large coin. The back cover of this album included a cast image of Shea Stadium. The CD was released after the extraordinary success of Band on the Run and also became very popular. Paul McCartney's first album with Capitol Records. After the release of Band on the Run, Wings also included Jimmy McCulloch (lead guitarist) and Jeff Britton (drummer) in 1974. After McCartney wrote several new songs for the upcoming album, the band flew to New Orleans in January 1975 to record Venus and Mars.Britton, after an argument with McCulloch, left the band, having managed to participate in the recording of only three songs of the album.
