This is the first album after the split of the band in early 1987, "Hero of Asphalt" is also the first album officially released by "Melody", the two previous albums at that time existed and were distributed as tape albums only on tape cassettes. It is the band's fourth album released in the US and the third in the UK. The versions of the album released in the US and in the UK differ in the covers and the list of songs. The American version of the album was released on July 30, 1965 by London Records, and the British version was released on September 24, 1965, by Decca Records. The album was originally released in the United States. The album cover shows a photo taken during the same photo shoot as the photos that appeared on the covers of the albums 12 X 5 and The Rolling Stones No. 2. The album was the result of six months of work by the band.
