You can also hear a lot of full-fledged guitar parts in the album's tracks. The sound and style on Music for the Masses is significantly different from previous works by Depeche Mode — the songs have a disturbing and melancholic sound. Music for the Masses led to a surge in the popularity of Depeche Mode in the US. The record demonstrates the group's desire to expand their own stylistic framework, a number of his compositions are musically much more complex than the CCR recordings of 1968-1969.
