It was released by the Polydor label on November 28, 1970, but failed to chart. The album, produced by Chas Chandler, was the first released under the Slade name since the band's 1969 debut album was released under the Ambrose Slade name. Bill Fehilly is the band's manager, who died shortly before in a plane crash. The musicians admitted that without his help, Nazareth would never have crossed the borders of England — let alone other countries. Play ’n’ the Game, like the previous album, went unnoticed in the UK, while the band was very popular in Canada, where Nazareth received about 50 gold and platinum records throughout the 1970s.
