Led Zeppelin III was one of the most anticipated albums of 1970, with pre-orders approaching one million in the United States alone. The cover with the wavy edge delayed production for two months. Ahead of the release, the band posted a full-page advertisement in Melody Maker magazine at the end of September saying, "Thank you for making us the number one band in the world." The album was released in the US on October 5, and in the UK on October 23. He immediately topped the UK charts. Led Zeppelin III became the number one transatlantic hit. In the UK, it reached number one on November 7, 1970 and remained on the charts for 40 weeks. In the United States, it entered the charts at number three on October 24 and reached number one the following week. It stayed on the charts for 19 weeks and was certified gold on October 8, 1970.
