CAL TJADER (July 16, 1925 — May 5, 1982) was an American musician who played Latin jazz. He is often called the most successful Latin American musician of non-Latin American origin.[1] He explored other jazz trends, especially modern jazz in small groups, while continuing to perform music from Africa, the Caribbean, and Latin America. Tjader mainly played the vibraphone, as well as drums, bongos, congas, timbales, and piano. He has worked with many musicians from different cultures. He is often associated with the development of Latin American rock and acid jazz. Although the mixing of jazz with Latin American music is often referred to as "Latin American jazz," Tjader's works freely combine both styles.
