He hired former King Crimson guitarist Robert Fripp, who was part of Gabriel's early touring band, to produce the album and incorporated its Frippertronic effects into his co-written composition "Exposure". The album was released in the USA under the name Peter Gabriel II. Later, he became informally known as Scratch, referring to the design of the Hipgnosis album.
