It was released on May 15 , 1984 by Epic Records as a follow - up to the band 's critically and commercially successful 1983 album Texas Flood . The recordings took place in January 1984 at a power plant in New York . Stevie Ray Vaughan wrote half of the tracks, unable to withstand the weather. The album reached number 31 on the Billboard 200 chart, and the video for the song "Couldn't Stand the Weather" received regular rotation on MTV. DEEP PURPLE-SLAVES AND MASTERS-1990-FIRST PRESS GERMANY-RCA- PL90535. A rare original of the cult album.  Slaves and Masters is the thirteenth studio album by Deep Purple, released on October 5, 1990. The CD was recorded with the participation of vocalist Joe Lynn Turner, who came to replace Ian Gillan at the suggestion of Richie Blackmore. The album went on sale on November 5, 1990 and caused contradictory responses. Blackmore was very pleased with the record, but music critics felt that it was more like a Rainbow album. Ian Gillan, who was dismissed from the group, had a similar opinion. "I feel proud of what Deep Purple did, and I think it would be fair if they called themselves by some other name - "Rainbow" or something. I think that would be fair enough. I think everyone would be relieved. They could very well continue their career as "Rainbow" and at a much higher level than if they continued as "Deep Purple". Upon its release, the album Slaves and Masters reached number 87 on the US Billboard 200 chart. Despite low album sales, Deep Purple conducted a relatively successful tour in support of Slaves and Masters in 1991, especially for the band's European leg. To record it, Mike Kelly, the drummer from the original composition of Spooky Tooth, returned to the band and, practically, replaced Bryson Graham, who participated in the recording of the previous album You Broke My Heart ... (1973). Gary Wright is gaining more and more influence in the band, which did not please frontman Mike Harrison, who left the band shortly after the release of “Witness”. In addition to Wright, the authors of the music were bassist Chris Stewart in the song "Don't Ever Stray Away" and guitarist Mick Jones in the rather pop "All Sewn Up". Mike Harrison strangely did not have a hand in the composition in any way. But his emotional vocals created the main mood of Witness.
