The Book of Taliesyn is the second Studio album by British band Deep Purple. Released in the United States in October 1968 on Tetragrammaton Records, and in the United Kingdom in June 1969 on Harvest records, it is named after the book of Taliesin, a Welsh manuscript of the first half of the 14th century that includes the oldest Welsh poems, many of which are attributed to the poet Taliesin (VI century). Four discs were released with rare and previously unreleased songs: 1993 Tattoo. (Code M-0004). 1993 Wording. (Code M-0011). 1994 But I don't regret it. (Code M-0092). 1994 Talk to me at least. (Code M-0093). It was commissioned by the Vladimir Vysotsky Foundation, but after the release of the first two albums, the Foundation ran out of money and refused to Finance it. Aprelevka releases at its own expense several hundred pieces of the third and fourth album to pay for the preparation of albums.  The third and fourth discs are extremely rare and are welcome rarities of the master's work.  ...more

It was the first album to be released after the band's reorganization, following their breakup in 1970. Founding guitarist Luther Grosvenor did not return to the band, as he joined Mott the Hoople as a guitarist, adopting the stage name Ariel Bender . Grosvenor was replaced by Mick Jones, who later co-founded Foreigner, and drummer Mike Kelly was replaced by Bryson Graham .
