This is the first album since Hollow Bones (2016) and their first release on Atlantic Records. It was preceded by the single "Do Your Worst", which peaked number one in the Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs in March 2019. The album was nominated for two awards at the Grammys 2020 , one for best rock album and another for best rock performance.

In 1970, they recorded their second studio album, Death May Be Your Santa Claus, at Mushroom Studios and invited Second Hand to release their album there. The album was released in April 1971 with a supporting single titled "Funeral", featuring "Hangin' On An Eyelid " (track 2 from the album) as the B-side.
