The album title is taken from a fiction film, Fred Zinnerman "the day of the Jackal", released in 1973. Fully Allmusic praised the album in their retrospective review, praising the keyboard work of Rick Davis, vocals Roger Hodgson and the sax of John Helliwell. They noted especially the emotionally powerful songwriting, which, in their opinion, gave the album "a warm charming personality and subtle mood", the Album was certified platinum in the US And Canada, gold in Europe and Britain.

MAYALL, JOHN-CRUSADE-1967-FIRST UK PRESS-DECCA-SKL4890. Matrix A-1W/B-1W. Very rare original cult Blues rocker. Since the release of the previous album A Hard Road in the composition of Bluesbrakers there have been noticeable changes: Peter green went to collect his own band (Fleetwood Mac), and Ainsley Dunbar went to Jeff Beck.
